Songs of Salt

Cave People, the east London based collective I am in, will be participating in the Whitstable Biennale this summer on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th of July. We have created an immersive installation inspired by the rhythms and lyrics of traditional English sea shanties called Songs of Salt.

Sea shanties are working songs, the rhythms of which differ depending on the type of activity in which sailors who sang them were engaged. Working within the confines of a beach hut, this piece will encompass both visual and sonic elements, with the narratives of working seamen brought to life in an on-site evening performance on the 3rd July by singers from Whitstable-based folk ensemble, Dead Horse Morris and the Ship Wright Shanty Crew.

See you by the sea!
